چکیده

An International Stereology course approved by the International Society for Stereology. This course will provide participants with a practical introduction to recent advances in stereology. There will be ample opportunity for discussion between participants and the experienced instructors on specific stereological problems related to the participants’ own projects. Particular emphasis will be placed on the most recent stereological methods for estimation of volumes, areas, lengths, number and connectivity of objects. The course will encompass not only traditional theory and lecture-room exercises, but also practical demonstrations.

Stereology: a novel technique for rapid assessment of liver volume

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to test the stereology method using several grid sizes for measuring liver volume and to find which grid provides an accurate estimate of liver volume. MATERIALS AND METHODS Liver volume was measured by volumetry in 41 sets of liver MRI. MRI was performed before and after different weight-reducing regimens. Grids of 3, 4, 5, and 6 cm were used to measu...

Random-grid stereologic volumetry of MR head scans.

Point count stereology is a useful tool in obtaining volumetric measures of objects in three-dimensional (3D) images when the segmentation of objects is not feasible. Presently, fixed-grid 3D stereology is being used where a 3D parallelepiped grid is randomly placed for sampling the image space in order to generate test points. Although this is a popular technique, the use of a fixed grid intro...
